This is a charming antique Japanese netsuke figurine depicting a sad or contemplative man wearing a floral patterned garment. The piece is signed on the base, suggesting it was created by a netsuke carver.
The figure stands approximately 1 7/8 inches tall and shows fine carved details including expressive facial features, textured robe patterns, and a compact form typical of traditional netsuke. Good antique condition with age-related wear. There is a small chip on the right toes (see photos). Otherwise displays well with nice carved detail and character.
Netsuke were historically used in Japan as functional toggles worn with traditional garments and are now widely collected for their craftsmanship and artistry.
